Having crossed Germany and Holland at full throttle and tree top height, Bill Townsend’s Lancaster evades the German coastal gun batteries and heads out over the North Sea and homewards. Tasked with attacking the Ennepe Dam, Bill Townsend’s Lancaster AJ-O was actually in the air the longest of any taking part in the raid and he was subsequently awarded the Conspicuous Gallantry Medal for valour.The canvas is signed on the back in permanent ink by five members of the legendary 617 Squadron. Imagine having such a painting and talking point in your home!

Proudly waving Union Jack flags from the cockpit are pilot Captain Les Brodie and Concorde chief pilot Captain Mike Bannister. No one who saw Concorde on Wednesday November 26th 2003 could fail to be moved by the sight of this magnificent aircraft as she moved these last few yards with the greatest of dignity under the gaze of the world’s media and thousands of local well-wishers.

This brand new edition is published with approval of the Red Arrows Trust, an organisation formed to ensure the good name of the Red Arrows is protected by ensuring their name and identity is only linked to commercial projects which have been vetted by the trustees.It is the 4th June 2002. Concorde and the Red Arrows fly in tight formation over Suffolk en route to take part, along with other aircraft, in the Queen’s Jubilee Flypast. At the controls of G-BOAD Concorde are Civil Aviation Authority Chief Test Pilot Jock Reid and British Airways Chief Concorde Pilot and aircraft Commander on the day – Captain Mike Bannister. For millions of people the highlight of the Queen’s Jubilee weekend was undoubtedly the amazing sight of Concorde and the RAF Red Arrows aerobatic team flying together only 1500ft above the Mall and Buckingham Palace.

For many, Wednesday 26th November 2003 will be etched in their memory as the day they watched this most famous and beautiful commercial aircraft glide gracefully over Isambard Kingdom Brunel’s Clifton Suspension Bridge.

Climbing towards 60,000 feet and the edge of space Concorde (G-BOAD) traveled where no other commercial aircraft could go. Its enormously powerful engines enabled Concorde to reach the speed of sound – Mach 1 (about 675 mph). During the lifetime of Concorde the fleet carried just over 2.5m passengers.

Lest We Forget "The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight"

The Avro Lancaster (PA474), Supermarine Spitfire Mk IIa (P7350) and Hawker Hurricane Mk IIc (LF363) flying in tight formation. The aircraft are in the new 2007 markings with the Avro Lancaster representing the famous ‘Phantom of the Ruhr’ aircraft from 100 Squadron. They are depicted over the cliffs of Beachy Head, the scene of ferocious aerial combat during the Battle of Britain. Formed in 1957 the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight is a living tribute to the bravery of RAF pilots and aircrew during World War Two. Now celebrating its 50th year, it continues to thrill and delight many thousands of spectators at airshows all over the United Kingdom.

Peter Ayherst DFC – Spitfire Ace, 9 victories
(Flew from start to finish throughout the war; took part in the Battle of France, Battle of Britain, D-Day and North Africa amongst others. First into combat against the Me109. He even taught the famous Johnny Johnson to fly! After the war he became a test pilot working alongside Alex Henshaw).

Peter Twiss OBE, DSC and Bar
(War time combat pilot but perhaps best known for his breaking of the world speed record whilst flying the Fairey Delta 2 aircraft in 1956. Prior to this he flew Spitfires, Fulmars and Hawker Hurricanes from catapult ships. In 1942 he flew as part of the Malta convoys escort. Also took part in Operation Torch)

Captain Eric Brown R.N.
(31-year career in the Royal Navy, and is the Fleet Air Arm’s most decorated pilot. After a distinguished operational tour flying from Britain’s first escort carrier, he was selected as a test pilot, ultimately being appointed as Chief Naval Test Pliot. He commanded the Enemy Aircraft Flight, the High Speed Flight and finally the prestigious Aerodynamics Flight. In his test-flying career he flew a world record 487 basic types of aircraft, and made a world record 2,407 aircraft carrier landings in fixed-wing aircraft. At the end of WW2 he was the first Allied test pilot to fly many of the Luftwaffe’s most advanced aircraft such as the Me262 and He162)
